Dr. Smith joined Brookfield in 2024 as Principal, bringing over 30 years of educational experience. He has served as a principal, vice principal, and business manager in both private and public schools across California. Dr. Smith is actively involved in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is focused on continuous improvement. His goals for Brookfield include strengthening student culture, enhancing faculty support, and maintaining academic excellence. Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and camping. He has coached football for over 20 years, winning CIF section titles as a head coach and athletic director.Dr. Smith holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, a Masterās in Education from American InterContinental University, and a Bachelor's in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Redlands.
Ms. Moore has been a Kindergarten-5th grade teacher for 15 years and has been with Brookfield for 8 years. Known for her stern yet fun-loving approach, she believes every child has a desire to learn and needs guidance to reach their potential. As Assistant Principal, she aims to increase cultural events, enhance marketing and recruitment, boost the school's community visibility, and support teachers with instructional coaching. Ms. Moore is also a published children's book author and mother of two. She holds a Master's in Educational Leadership from Cal State East Bay, a Bachelor's in Political Science from Chico State, and a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
Tatanisha Day has over 24 years of experience in early childhood education, having worked with children in various capacities. She holds extensive training, including certifications from First Five, S.C.O.E, Preschool Bridging Model Plus, P.I.T.C, and the Sacramento Office of Education.Ms. Day believes in blending curiosity, creativity, and emergent teaching. She finds one of the greatest rewards in teaching young children is pausing to observe them and seeing the world through their eyes. Passionate about fostering an appreciation for education, her goal is to help each child reach their highest potential, recognizing that every child is unique and holds the future in their hands.
Mrs. Schumacher joined Brookfield in 1999 and has served as the Office Manager for 13 years. She oversees the daily operations of the school, assisting parents, students, and faculty in various capacities. As the first point of contact when you enter the office, she is always ready to lend a helping hand and ensure everything runs smoothly.
Sr. Armando Gutierrez joined the Brookfield faculty in 2023 as the early primary Spanish teacher. A native Spanish speaker, he is certified in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and applies these strategies to teach Spanish to native English speakers. His personal experience of learning English as a second language has strengthened his understanding of the challenges in language acquisition.
In addition to teaching, Sr. Gutierrez is a soccer coach and referee with extensive experience in organizing sports camps, leagues, and school programs. He currently works with Sacramento United Soccer Club and the Inderkum High School Soccer Program.
Sr. Gutierrez holds a BA in Ethnic Studies from Sacramento State University, is TESOL certified, and is a U.S. Soccer certified referee and assignor.
Since 2013, Iāve been supporting IT infrastructure and operations, serving educational communities across the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Itās fulfilling to contribute to such a dynamic, learning-focused environment.Before this, I worked as an independent IT contractor for four years, collaborating with various Bay Area businesses. Prior to relocating to the U.S., I served as a Regional Service Representative for Axesat in Colombia and taught Networks and Telecommunications at the college level.I hold a BA in Industrial Design, an MS in Telecommunications, and certifications in CCNA and Avaya IP Office.
Dr. Cabading, or "Dr. C," first joined Brookfield in 2019 as the middle school Math Specialist and Math Team Coach. He has returned to continue the strong Math legacy he began here. With 30 years of experience teaching mathematics, from elementary through postgraduate levels, he has taught across the globe, including Florida, Guam, the Philippines, and now California.Dr. C is a patient, kind-hearted educator who inspires students to reach their full potential, fostering confidence and self-efficacy in Math. He has successfully prepared Brookfield students to advance to Algebra II or its equivalent in their freshman year of high school.
Hello Iām Mr. Chris. Iāve been at Brookfield for twelve years now. Now Brookfield is my second home and Iāve done security, construction on the new campus, aftercare, setting up for events, fixing everything, substitute sometimes, basically whatever the school needs Iāll take care of. My main priority though is that Brookfield is always maintained and that everyone is safe.
Claire Michelet, originally from near Paris, received a strong foundation in French language and literature in high school, along with classical studies in Latin and Greek. She graduated from the Ćcole Nationale SupĆ©rieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris and spent many years teaching art history, drawing, and painting in Paris. After moving to the U.S. 22 years ago, she lived in New York, San Francisco, and San Diego, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts at CSU Chico. Now residing in Sacramento as an American citizen, Claire enjoys teaching French at Alliance FranƧaise of Sacramento and sharing her passion for French language, culture, and lifestyle with students.
Ms. Destiny was born and raised in Sacramento, and has been a dedicated preschool teacher for four years, with a history of volunteering with children since the age of 16. Growing up with four brothers and being raised by both parents, she developed a deep passion for working with children, particularly through caring for her younger siblings.Her interest in child development was further inspired by her youngest brotherās autism diagnosis, which profoundly impacted her family dynamics. Motivated to better understand and support him, she began volunteering in special needs classrooms at local public schools, assisted living homes, and Easter Seals.Ms. Destiny is always committed to fostering a warm, understanding, and nurturing learning environment and is honored to be part of the Brookfield community, where she strives to create a supportive and enriching experience for every child.
Mr. Dom Dalpez joined the Brookfield faculty as the Music Specialist in 2022. Specializing in saxophone, he is also proficient in clarinet, flute, piano, guitar, and ukulele. Mr. Dalpez began his musical journey learning clarinet in elementary school before switching to saxophone in high school. He holds a Bachelorās in Saxophone Performance and a Masterās in Music Performance with a Jazz emphasis from CSU Sacramento.
Ms. Elizabeth, known as Ms. Liz, has been working in the childcare profession for six years and is excited to be a part of the Brookfield Preschool Ladybug Classroom. While she does not have children of her own, she enjoys spending time with her six-year-old niece and two-month-old nephew, valuing family time with her loved ones.With extensive experience and coursework in Early Childhood Education, Ms. Liz has hands-on experience with infants, toddlers, and school-age children. She believes in the power of music to help with transitions for young children. She is eager to bring her knowledge, patience, and nurturing qualities to the Ladybug class.
Mrs. Meeker joined Brookfield with nine years of teaching experience, primarily in middle school science. She holds a BS in Zoology from UC Davis and completed the Teacher Preparation program at CSU Sacramento. Mrs. Meeker is certified with three California teaching credentials: Multiple Subjects, Single Subject Biology, and Single Subject Business.Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Meeker worked as a technical writer in the technology industry. In 2004, she made a bold decision to leave her successful career and return to college to pursue teaching. She has experience working with both established companies and startups, where she enjoyed the challenge of making complex concepts understandable.Mrs. Meeker is passionate about helping young people explore the world and discover their unique paths to the future.
Eric Poryles joined the Brookfield faculty in 2023, bringing both a parentās perspective and a passion for the French language. An alumni parent, he can attest to the excellent experience at Brookfield and the success of its graduates. Originally from Washington, D.C., Monsieur Poryles has studied French since the age of seven and spent a gap year in Paris, where he lived and taught, further enhancing his fluency. Before joining the faculty, he served as a tutor and substitute teacher at Brookfield.
Ms. Erin Kahle has been an educator since 2003 and joined Brookfield in 2017 with experience teaching a wide range of ages, from toddlers through third grade. She particularly enjoys teaching early primary children and takes pride in creating a classroom culture that celebrates and nurtures a childās ability to explore, discover, and learn. Her practical approach to classroom management emphasizes āfreedom with responsibility,ā fostering independence and accountability in her students.A master teacher in the Montessori method, Ms. Kahleās cheerful disposition and calming presence make her an excellent choice for children transitioning from Montessori preschools to Brookfield. She holds a BA in Liberal Studies from National University and a Primary Teaching Credential with an emphasis on Montessori Teacher Education.
Gloria Moreno joined Brookfield in Fall 2021 as a Social Studies Specialist. She has experience teaching History and English at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Mrs. Moreno is passionate about education and teaches intersectional and multicultural history to foster empathy in her students. As a first-generation college student, she believes learning is a never-ending gift.She holds a Masterās in History and a Bachelorās in History, both from California State University, Sacramento.
Ms. Haleema Kaifi joined the Brookfield faculty in 2021 as an English teacher. With a diverse teaching background, Ms. Kaifi has worked with various learners, including high school English students, adult ESL classes, tutors, corporate training, and as an adjunct professor. She is skilled in course design and has developed original courses in leadership, writing, and oration.Known for her warm smile and approachable personality, Ms. Kaifi enjoys building strong relationships with her students and tailoring her instruction to meet each learner's needs. She holds a BA in Literature and an MA in Teaching of English, both from Columbia University.
John Flolo joined Brookfield in 2004 as the Physical Education Instructor and Health Educator for Pre-First through 8th grades, also directing and coaching all 13 athletic programs. Prior to Brookfield, he was the Physical Education Instructor, Health Educator, Athletic Director, and Coach at Golden Hills Academy in El Dorado Hills, CA, and Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, AK. Mr. Flolo challenges students to "Always Do Their Best" and incorporates daily physical education with weekly testing based on the President's Council National Fitness Testing Standards. He holds a BS in Physical Education from CSU Sacramento and an MS in Instructional Leadership with a K-12 Professional Clear Credential in Physical Education from National University.
Mrs. Cullen joined the Brookfield faculty in 2012 as a second-grade teacher. With 23 years of experience, she has taught 1st through 4th grade in both private schools in Sacramento and local public school districts. Throughout her career, she has worked with a diverse range of students, including English language learners and students with learning disabilities. Mrs. Cullen is adept at using various teaching strategies to cater to different learning styles and enjoys the challenge of inspiring each student to reach their potential.Mrs. Cullen holds a B.A. in Child Development from CSU Sacramento, graduating Cum Laude, and she holds a California Multiple Subject Clear Teaching Credential.
Ms. Mai Xiong joined Brookfield in 2018 as a Preschool Teacher and advanced to Grade 1 in 2023. She is known for her creativity and strong technological skills. Ms. Xiong holds a BA in Child Development with a concentration in Early Education from California State University, Sacramento, and is currently pursuing an MA in Teaching, Elementary Education from Western Governors University. She is passionate about exploring cultures, cooking, and arts and crafts in her free time.
Mr. Cobley joined Brookfield's faculty in 2020 as a Science and Math teacher. Originally from the United Kingdom, he relocated to the US to work in paleontology with the University of Utah. Prior to joining Brookfield, he taught science for ten years to a wide range of learners, including graduate students at the University of Utah, elementary school students through the Natural History Museum of Utah, and high school students at Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City, UT.
He enjoys spending time in nature and has a passion for fixing and riding motorcycles.
Mr. Cobley holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Liverpool John Moores University and a Master of Science in Palaeobiology from the University of Bristol.
Mireya West has extensive experience in Early Childhood Education, including roles as a tutor, mentor, Primary Teacher, and Site Director. She is passionate about childcare and teaching. Mireya is excited to contribute to the classroom environment by fostering a love of learning and creating an engaging educational experience for all students at Brookfield.
Maestra Norma Faubert joined Brookfield in 2021 as the 2nd -8th grades Spanish Teacher. A native Spanish speaker born and raised in Mexico City, she has extensive experience as a Spanish teacher, English as a Second Language instructor, preschool teacher, and government interpreter. She believes that "being bilingual is a talent" and sees strong language skills as a valuable asset for effective communication.Maestra Norma holds a BA in Tourism Management and Development and is a certified Preschool Teacher and Spanish Teacher. She is also a Spanish Analytic Linguist for the U.S. Government and serves as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Ambassador for HOKA ONE ONE.
Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Patricia Chavez is a dedicated preschool teacher with 24 years of experience, including the past three years at Brookfield School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, and watching movies. With a strong passion for teaching, Ms. Chavez is committed to creating a fun and engaging learning environment for her students.
Penny Renaud began teaching second grade at Brookfield School in 2000. She later taught third and fourth grades, ultimately finding her true passion in teaching fourth grade. Before joining Brookfield, she taught sixth through eighth grades at Merryhill Preparatory School and the El Dorado County Office of Education.Her educational goal is to provide each student with an equal opportunity to succeed by promoting intellectual growth, creativity, self-discipline, cultural and linguistic sensitivity, democratic responsibility, and physical and mental health, enabling students to achieve their full potential.Penny holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies from National University and a California Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from National University.
Ms. Renee Janota joined Brookfield from Michigan, where she taught Social Studies for 18 years in both private and public middle schools. Born in Oregon, raised in Alaska, and with experience living in multiple U.S. states and 3.5 years in Frankfurt, Germany, she brings a global perspective to her teaching. Ms. Janota earned a Masterās degree in Education with a focus on Technology in the Classroom from Walden University.In addition to her expertise in Social Studies, she leads the Washington, D.C. trip, serves as the Technology Teacher for all grades, and collaborates with the Assistant Principal to coordinate Student Support Services. Highly organized, Ms. Janota is committed to creating a classroom community based on mutual respect, providing an environment where every student has the opportunity to learn and grow.
Ms. Shandrell Oats joined the Brookfield faculty in 2021 as a long-term substitute for primary grades and was later offered a permanent position due to her exceptional work. Prior to Brookfield, she interned for third and fifth grade teachers and was a Science instructor for Mad Science, Sacramento. Ms. Oats has taught grades 1-3 and is frequently requested by parents whose children were in her class the previous year. She is joyful, creative, and passionate about Science and Math.She holds a BA in Early Childhood Education from CSU Sacramento and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
Ms. Silvia joined Brookfield School in 2024 with over 20 years of experience in education, specializing in Early Childhood Education. She is committed to fostering a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for all students.Her passion for teaching was ignited when her son was diagnosed with Autism, motivating her to create a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all children. Ms. Silvia attended Diablo Valley College in the East Bay, where she earned her Teacher Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and also studied Criminal Justice.
Ms. Souzie Fonte joined Brookfield's school faculty in 2024 as a partner teacher in Pre-First, after a successful tenure as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Brookfield Preschool. With over 30 years of experience as an early childhood specialist, she is passionate about helping children grow, develop essential skills, and foster a love for learning.Before joining Brookfield, Ms. Fonte taught 4-5-year-olds for 18 years, directed an after-school program for grades Kindergarten-6th grade, served as a preschool director for 3 years, and was the lead teacher in a 2/3 combination class. She strives to create an engaging classroom where creativity and independence thrive through hands-on activities, fun art projects, learning games, and storytelling.
Dr. Stacey Hunter Schwartz joined Brookfield in 2024 as a Third Grade Teacher, bringing over two decades of experience teaching and leading educational programs for students of all ages. She has taught sixth-grade English/Language Arts, third-grade Social Studies, and fifth-grade English/Language Arts, Social Studies, and Math. Dr. Schwartz has also held leadership roles, including dean, associate dean, counselor, and professor at Coastline College, and led nonprofit organizations in Kansas, Arkansas, and California. Her approach to teaching focuses on building authentic relationships with students and helping them connect classroom learning to their real-life goals.Dr. Schwartz holds a strong passion for student-centered learning and enjoys spending time with her family, serving on boards, and contributing to nonprofit work.
Ms. Taty joined Brookfield PK in 2022, bringing with her six years of experience teaching children ages 2-5. She enjoys Jurassic Park movies, strawberries, the Dodgers, and Halloween. Ms. Taty is also highly artistic and loves sharing her creative skills with her students.
Ms. Unique has been a dedicated member of the Brookfield community for one year and is honored to be part of it. Her passion for working with children began at a young age and was further solidified during her senior year of high school when she volunteered as a cheer coach assistant, igniting her lasting interest in child development.A graduate of Sacramento Charter High School, Ms. Unique continued her education at CSU Fresno. In addition to her professional commitment, she is a devoted mother of two and has been with her partner for seven years. She is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to shaping the next generation of leaders and difference-makers.
