The Curriculum at Brookfield Middle School

Our accelerated curriculum pushes students at least one grade level ahead of State and National standards. Students encounter themes to build Foundations of Critical Thinking, exploring concepts including bias, assumptions, implications and perspective, challenging them to think critically, innovate and constantly discover something new.

French or Spanish Classes

Love of foreign languages

Students develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in French or Spanish through engaging activities such as role-playing, storytelling and cultural exploration. Our approach encourages real-world application, helping students express themselves naturally and confidently.

Brookfield teaches French, helping students strengthen grammar, composition and fluency. Many reach a High School level by 5th grade, with graduates often testing into French II or III. Learning French enhances English skills, as 45% of English words have French origins. 5th graders also compete in the National French Contest, consistently ranking among top performers.

Our students also have the option of learning Spanish. Studying Spanish grammar and vocabulary can provide a new perspective on English grammar and word roots (as both languages share Latin roots). This can lead to a better understanding of their native language. Our Spanish students also compete in the National Spanish Competition and earn high honors.
