New
Principal
Dr. Jo Gonsalves
Dr. Jo Gonsalves, joined Brookfield School in
2007. As a professional educator for 14 years, she lends her
extensive knowledge of school management, leadership, and curriculum
to ensure that Brookfield School will continue to provide the finest
educational experience possible. She describes her leadership
style as head and heart applied to each decision and situation.
Principal Gonsalves most recently served as
Assistant Principal of Academics at St. Francis High School in
Sacramento, and has several years experience as an English and
Science teacher in grades 6-12. She completed her undergraduate and
graduate work at the University of California, Davis, and holds
California Clear Teaching Credentials in English and Science. She
recently completed the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership
at St. Mary's College of California in 2007.
A
thirty year resident of Sacramento, Principal Gonsalves enjoys spending
time with her large family. We are delighted to have her join
our Brookfield family as its instructional leader.
In addition to the strong academic leadership provided by the
principal, the most important element of the school is its deeply
committed and multi-talented teaching staff, many of whom have been
with the school for years. Teachers at Brookfield are carefully
selected for their commitment to Brookfield's academic standards,
their love of teaching, and their desire to work with young college-bound
students. Teachers are supported with professional development opportunities,
including attending conferences to keep abreast of new teaching
strategies. They are encouraged to share their knowledge with others
and to make suggestions for improvements.
The teachers are dedicated to the intellectual and emotional growth
of young people, creating a family-like environment of genuine caring
and support. They guide students individually to help discover and
develop the hidden talents and qualities that may pass unnoticed
in a less personal environment. Most teachers are dedicated to a
grade level or their field of specialty. Part-time teachers enrich
and extend the basic program in music, P.E. and occasionally art.
