Before and After School Topics

Arrival
Students are expected to be at school each day it is in session. Punctuality is expected. The School day is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Due to insurance and liability, students should not arrive before there is supervision for them at 8:45 a.m. (unless enrolled in the Early School Care Program). Music classes begin at 8:15 a.m. for those who are enrolled. Students in the music program should arrive a few minutes before 8:15 for that particular day. When driving onto the parking lot, please adhere to the 5MPH speed limit for the safety of the children. Please do not park in the designated staff parking area reserved for the Temple. Notice the handicapped only parking area. There is a $274 fine if unauthorized drivers without placards use the handicapped parking spaces.

Dismissal Procedures
Students should leave the premises of the School after school is dismissed unless otherwise directed by a teacher or Director. After 3:15, if a student still has not been picked up, the supervising duty teacher will take any remaining students to the Early/Late Program for supervision. Parents may pick up their children from the Early/Late Program Supervisor. Under no circumstances are children allowed to change their pick-up procedures without written authorization from their parents. Parents who pick up their children immediately following the dismissal bell are requested to depart as soon as possible.
_ The children enrolled in the after-school program are to go directly to their assigned room. Students who have not been picked up should report directly to the teacher on duty or to the secretary so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
_ When waiting for rides, wait only on the parking lot side at school. Riverside Blvd. should not be used for dropping off and picking up. There are several areas of the campus that are off-limits not only during school but after school as well. The embankment, which goes from the parking lot to the retaining wall, is a danger to students. After school has been dismissed, children should not be on the playground equipment. Parents must assume any risk of injury to their children if the parent is on the campus and their children are playing on the playground. Parents who have after-school conferences should make arrangements for their children to go to the after-school program. If a student will be leaving school with anyone other than his designated driver, the school must be notified before closing that day so that we can inform the student.

Early/Late Program
The Early/Late Program operates before school from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and from 3:00 - to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays. The After School Program is not available the Friday before Winter Break and at the end of the year on the last day of school. Parents elect to register children for part or the entire program on an annual basis depending upon their needs. In the afternoon, students participate in a study hall for 20 - 40 minutes. It is a time of quiet work and concentration. On Fridays, students fifth grade and up, will be permitted to walk to Vic's, provided they have a permission slip signed by a parent. The permission slip must be written each Friday. In addition, student's will be accompanied by a school employee(s).

Extreme Weather Conditions/Inclement Weather
In the event of hazardous weather conditions, the School will close for the school day when the entire Sacramento City Unified School District closes. If the District closes only selected schools, Brookfield will remain open unless the School is experiencing unsafe conditions. If the School does close, parents will be notified by telephone.
