Musical Concerts have been outstanding! The Beginning & Advance Band & String performers did a fabulous job playing their tunes. The audience was impressed with the great progress that our students have accomplished on their instruments. Wow! Our instrumental students truly shine!

We certainly ended the year on a musical note. The Spring Music Concert was fantastic! It is always such a treat for the parents and staff to hear and see the Brookfield students sing, dance, play the recorder, and hear another musical. The cast for the Sound of Music did an amazing job! Don't you think they belong on Broadway?!! Thank you , Mr. & Mrs. Clinger, and students, for a fabulous musical evening. You all did a spectacular job!

Naturally, culminating the year wouldn't be complete without the extra plays that take place: Pre-First students, as always, were adorable showcasing their talents for their parents with the Three Little Pigs musical, reading, singing and speaking in French. First graders captivated the audience with their knowledge about their studies of the rainforest. Their songs, memorization of scientific facts, and French abilities amazed the audience. Second graders did a fantastic job with their speeches for the Character Birthday Party event. Fourth graders were ingenious with their various skits about California history . What a treat it was for the student body to see their presentation on "Oh California" We truly have some creative students!

There are only so many "last days" that it is difficult for everyone to have a spotlight at the end of the year. It's great that our staff is able to do special highlights during the year. Before spring break, third graders truly let their talents shine with the puppet plays based on the book that was read for the month. We have some great script writers! And of course, the upper grade students do their obligatory speeches each month. However, many projects coincide with these speeches and we can see the superior report writing and presentations. Fifth graders did their State report projects. Sixth and seventh graders have written some very impressive term reports during the last six weeks. Thank you students for working so diligently. Thank you parents for being so supportive so that our students truly excel! It is gratifying to see the outcomes when we work together as a team: students, teacher, and parents. Bless you all for such a rewarding learning year!

Many thanks to Ms. Kathy Beasley who spearheaded another great Book Swap. There were over 3,000 books that Brookfield students brought in to exchange for reading. In addition, 1,308 books were donated to the Sacramento Children's Receiving Home. Thank you student council representatives for your help in making this event so successful. A special thanks goes to Mr. Wong, student council advisor, Mrs. Darwish, Alex Darwish and Rebekkah Lucien for delivering the books to the Sacramento Children's Receiving Home. Student Council's culminating event was the toiletries drive. There was such an overwhelming response to help people in need that the entire school earned another "free - dress" day. Thanks go to Mrs. Sherry Wong for delivering the toiletry items to Merry House.

The staff and I want to thank all the parents for their kindness during staff appreciation week. Mrs. Carol Paskulin, BPA and parents presented the staff with an outstanding luncheon. What a delicious treat for the staff. Thank you for making us feel so special!

Thank you to the BPA for a very successful Family Picnic on May 18. The students really enjoyed the plastic slide and jump house. The live animals (hedgehogs, snakes, lizards, skunk, etc) and presentation by Julie Allen, Naturalist Environmental Educator was a big hit. Thank you, Mrs. Jennifer Benton, BPA President and crew for an outstanding job!

By now, you have seen the 2002-2003 Brookfield Yearbook. Wow! This is an amazing edition. Mrs. Darwish, the yearbook sponsor and the 7th graders put in many hours to make this yearbook so terrific! Thank you, Mrs. Darwish and students, for giving us a great book of memories.

We will be having Camp Brookfield for two weeks at the end of school: June 2-6 and June 9-13. If you still want to sign up your child, please see Mrs. Hoover or come into the office for an application form. Hours are from 7:30-5:30. Instruction will be from 9:00-3:00. Cost is $200/week.

As the school year comes to an end, we want to wish all of our Brookfield families a very safe, happy, and enjoyable summer. In addition to the report card, there are the SAT/9 scores and the summer reading list. All students will need to read at least three books. Please make sure your child does a book report for each of the three books read. Older students will be tested on their reading selections at the beginning of school. In addition to reading, please review math facts periodically with your child during the summer. It is very important for all students to know their math facts well so they can continue with successful math studies in the fall.

Throughout the year, parents occasionally ask if I know of a tutor for their child in a particular subject area. Attached is a brochure for summer tutoring in reading comprehension, writing, and math. Should you have questions about the programs, please call the phone numbers listed to find out more information. The office also has applications .

Thank you for the support you have given your child, the teacher and the school this past year. Our parents do an outstanding job of supporting the school and its endeavors to make learning challenging and enjoyable for the students. Our staff has put in many hours to make lessons meaningful and creative. The time has flown by quickly and the students have worked very hard. My thanks to everyone for a fantastic year. Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,
Loretta Ashizawa Director
